The Innocence of Childhood
The Innocence of Childhood
When I was a little girl,
I used to believe in the fantasy realm.
I believed in fairies and unicorns,
Pixies and gnomes,
And spend hours reading about them,
Thinking their magic was real.
When I was a little girl,
I used to think my parents
Played only the role of a mother or father,
Oblivious to the other lives they lived.
I thought their world revolved around me,
And they were only supposed to take care of me.
When I was a little girl,
I thought the whole world was a happy place,
Where everyone co-existed in peace,
Not knowing what feminism was,
Or about poverty and inequalities,
I thought everyone was equal and lived as one.
When I grew up,
I realized how naive I’d been,
Magic wasn’t real-
It was an escape from reality.
My parents had millions of other things to do-
Not just look after me.
People are the main cause of all problems-
We’re the reason peace doesn’t exist.
